As the largest cultural organization on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Black Student Movement is proud to have an annual membership of students from several different backgrounds.

With 10+ central committees, five former subgroups that are now their own campus organizations, and an official publication, the BSM is devoted to addressing cultural and diversity issues across UNC’s campus and the surrounding community, while also promoting Black ideals and culture.

Holding true to its slogan, “Uhuru Ni Upinduzi” (Freedom through Revolution), the Black Student Movement continuously advocates for an inclusive University atmosphere through its many campus programs and events held during the academic year. We are dedicated to combatting systemic racism and working to create a genuinely equitable and safe space for Black students at UNC while maintaining a relationship between Black students and the broader Black community.
