Summer Holmes- Miss BSM | 2015-2016

The Black Student Movement ‘We Gon Be Alright Scholarship” is a service project inspired by our Miss. BSM (2015-2016) Summer Holmes. Summer has shown dedicated service and passion toward our black community and overarching Carolina community during her four years here at Carolina. This award will reflect the values of Summer by awarding underclassmen scholarship money based on their commitment to service and activism within and outside the Carolina community. We want to highlight the valiant efforts of those who have enacted change for the betterment of their constituents during times of institutional injustices and the disenfranchisement of minority populations.

Purpose:

  • To foster a generation of leaders to not only continue but to improve upon the initiatives we’ve embarked on.
  • The BSM gains exposure to incoming first years before they get to campus, increases membership.
  •  To highlight and reward remarkable underclassmen for their heroism and unprecedented work in their communities.
  • To provide a networking opportunity for undergraduates, alumni, and the surrounding Carolina Community

Vision:

Summer's vision and the vision of the scholarship committee is to one day be able to provide this scholarshop to incoming first-years of our university. In it's inaugural year, this scholarship will be awarded to rising sophomores and rising juniors in the spring of 2016 at the BSM's annual spring Umoja Awards. With support and continued success of this scholarship, we want this scholarshop to be available for incoming first years to help aid in retention, recruitment and recognition of minority students on the carolina campus. The hopes of this scholarship is to gain support beyond the confines of the BSM community, and the Carolina community so that it may have the opportunity to impact the leaders of the generations to come.

With scholarships, there is always the call for support, any monetary support from faculty, alumni, and outside community partners are greatly appreciated! Click below to donate or to contact us for more information!
